8) Silver Strand State Beach, San Diego
Silver Strand State Beach has two faces. One looks out onto the Pacific and endures the relentless pounding of the surf while the other hides behind a gentle curve of sand and enjoys the warm, calm waters of San Diego Bay. The area enjoys a relatively mild climate making both parts of Silver Strand State Beach popular with locals and tourists alike. Recreational activities include swimming, boating, water-skiing and volleyball and for those who want to work on their surfing the Coronado Surfing Academy is on hand. Anglers are also well catered to with fishing permits available for the perch, grunion and yellow-fin croakers that favour the waters here.
