2) Heart’s Desire Beach, Marin County
The adorably named Heart’s Desire Beach is located on the eastern side of Point Reyes National Seashore amongst the rolling hills of Marin County. More a secluded sandy cove or bay than a stretch of beach per se, Heart’s Desire is noted for its calm, shallow waters that are safe for all the family. While the waters at Heart’s Desire cannot be said to be tropical, they are mild and make for a bracing and exciting splash. Hiking trails leading from Heart’s Desire through nearby forests, past a freshwater, seasonal stream, to other local beaches are extremely popular and even family pets are welcome to join in the fun.
