7) Wonderland – Beijing, China

In the 1990s, prior to the recent 2016 opening of Shanghai Disney, there was an opening in the Chinese markets for a magical theme park in a budding tourist industry. Work began creating a theme park known as Wonderland, which was planned to spread over 120 acres and expand over time. However, in 1998, the project was abandoned due to a land dispute. Cement buildings and metal poles are all that’s left after almost 20 years of abandonment. The eerie quiet shows stark contrast to the giggle of children and excited exclamations of happy patrons if the project had went through. Signs remain notifying all visitors of dangers of the park, including soil poisoning.
