8) Mystery Spot – Santa Cruz, California
This illusion-based tourist spot opened in 1941 by a man named George Prather. Visitors are amazed at the gravity-defying anomaly during their 45-minute guided tour. Located in the redwoods just outside Santa Cruz, it’s a circular area about 150 feet in circumference. This spot lives up to its name, as you’ll certainly be mystified by the challenge to your perceptions of physics and gravity. It was first discovered by a group of land surveyors, who were just as perplexed as the many thousands who have visited since then. Often people return, over and over again, amazed at the puzzling phenomenon. Variations of gravity, perspective and height are all called into question here. There are many speculations and theories about the cause, but no one really knows for certain. To this day, it remains a mystery and certainly a fun spot to spend a few hours of outdoor enjoyment.
