11) Underground Tunnels – Los Angeles, California
In defiance of prohibition laws, 11 miles of service tunnels under the city of Los Angeles became passageways to secret parties back in the day. Basement speakeasies were set up with legitimate business fronts at street level. Party goers moved freely about under the city – boozing it up with liquor supplied by the Mayor’s office. King Eddy Saloon set up in 1900 fronted by a piano store. It’s been an official saloon since 1933, but its basement remains part of the original tunnel system. Having survived for over 100 years, this modern-day speakeasy is the last of its kind with stories to tell. “Disappear Here” if you want to explore the historic underground of Los Angeles and wet your whistle at the same time.
