6) American Museum of Natural History
Located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, it’s one of the largest museums in the world. You could spend an entire day or longer exploring the 45 halls and Rose Center for Earth and Space. Most people spend a minimum of three hours touring these fascinating displays. Current temporary exhibits include: Cuba, Dinosaurs, Wonders of the Artic, Crocs, Dark Universe, Countdown to Zero – which focuses on eradicating disease from our planet, and Opulent Oceans. The museum also houses many permanent exhibits which include: Birds, Reptiles and Amphibians, Earth and Planetary Sciences, Fossils, Human Origins and Culture, Mammals and The Discovery Room. The two-story Theodore Roosevelt Memorial, at the Central Park West entrance, includes the Theodore Roosevelt Rotunda, and the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Hall. It’s a tribute to the enduring legacy of the “Conservation” President who was responsible for creating our National Parks system. The museum offers public tours as well as self-guided tours and is a fascinating way to spend a fun and educational family day.
