10) Coney Island
Coney Island, on the south shore of Brooklyn, is known historically for its boardwalk and beach. Coney Island attractions continue to amaze visitors who flock there in summer months. Home of the very first and considered “only” by locals, Nathan’s Famous hot dogs have been serving up their original recipes for 100 years. It’s also home to the world famous annual hot dog eating contest. The amusement park, Luna Park, features the well-known Coney Island Cyclone roller coaster that made its debut back in 1927. The most recent attraction for thrill seekers is the Thunderbolt, which begins with a 90-degree vertical drop at speeds up to 55 miles per hour! And if that’s not enough thrill, try the Sling Shot where you fly over 150 feet in the air at speeds up to 90 mph! The centerpiece of Coney Island is Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park, home to the world-famous Ferris wheel, as well as many rides and attractions that parents can enjoy with their children. A trip to Coney Island wouldn’t be complete without a stop to the NY Aquarium. Exhibits include Sharks, Alien Stingers, Conservation Hall, Sea Cliffs, Explore the Shore and the Aquatheater.
