9) Sequoia National Forest
Tucked within the southern part of the Sierra Nevada mountains, the Sequoia National Forest is the famous location of the world’s largest trees – the giant sequoias. Closely related to the redwoods, giant sequoias have enormous trunks, the sheer size of which will take your breath away. The national forest covers over a million acres and is home to over 30 giant sequoia groves, which happen to be the greatest concentration in the world. The crowning glory of this legendary forest is a tree known as “General Sherman.” The biggest tree on earth, it boasts an astounding circumference of 85 feet. The lush forest is also the site of glacier-carved canyons, picturesque lakes, limestone caves. and stunning vistas.
