7) Natural Bridges State Park

Consisting of a 65-acre plot in Santa Cruz, Natural Bridges State Park was named for its natural mud-stone bridges that were formed by a mixture of clay, silt and diatoms. Waves from the Pacific Ocean carved the arches, detaching them from the nearby cliffs. Today, there is only one remaining bridge. It’s a powerfully beautiful example of the force of nature. In addition to this natural formation, beach goers can also see migrating whales, seals, sea otters and more. Natural Bridges State Park also happens to be in the migration path of nearly 150,000 Monarch butterflies each year.  The best time to experience the full flight of the Monarchs is between October and February. Thousands of colorful orange butterflies flying in and out of the grove’s eucalyptus trees simultaneously is certainly a breathtaking vision for adults and children alike.
