4) Pfeiffer Beach
If you’ve never seen purple sand, Pfeiffer Beach is where you can find it and view the seashore in all its violet glory. Located in Big Sur, the beach gets its purple hue from manganese garnet deposits that are washed down from the nearby cliffs. As if its colorful sand wasn’t cool enough, Pfeiffer Beach is also home to a rare rock formation known as Keyhole Rock. The giant stone structure forms a natural arch, producing a keyhole-like opening at the rock’s base. Perhaps the best time to visit this unusual beach is at sunset when you can catch a glimpse of the sun’s rays peeking through the keyhole.
