9) The High Line in New York City
What do you do with nearly 1.5 miles decommissioned elevated train right in the middle of New York City, where space is at a premium? Well for many decades, New York did nothing with with this unused eyesore running along the west side of Manhattan. In 2006 however, work began on turning this dilapidated old rail line into a beautiful urban park and today people walk on this beautiful walkway that hovers peacefully above the busy streets below. Visitors can enjoy an afternoon stroll taking in the views of the city and the High Line’s gardens while listening to the local musicians you may find playing in this beautiful outdoor venue. The High Line also offers organized activities such as concerts or stargazing, which is conducted every Tuesday night by the Amateur Astronomers Association from April through October.
