10 Best Vacation Spots in Texas

10) Amarillo

Travel 365-miles northwest from Dallas to find Amarillo, the Texan city built on the historic Route 66. The city’s biggest claim to fame is its unique public art installation, Cadillac Ranch. Constructed in 1974, the entire sculpture is made from old Cadillacs with their noses stuck in the ground and their back halves sticking straight up in the air. The display shows the vehicle’s progression between the years of 1949 – 1963, including the rise and fall of the infamous tailfin. One of the most bizarre art expressions in Texas, however totally worth the trip to Amarillo. If you’re a meat-eater, then Amarillo is also a good choice. After Cadillac Ranch, satisfy your appetite with a visit to The Big Texan Steakhouse. Famously located on Route 66 in 1960, this steakhouse now proudly serves a 72-ounce steak – free, to anyone who can finish it in an hour!
