South East Asia has long been known as a cheap travel destination. It’s surreal that such a beautiful area can remain so inexpensive, but it’s true. The Philippines is no exception. Many people flock to this country of over 7,000 islands for the gorgeous, white-sand beaches, exploration of the many islands, and days soaking up the sun. It may be an expensive flight, but the cheap food, accommodations, and transportation make up for it. A simple meal of chicken and rice is $2-$3 at the local joints. If a burger with a side of ocean view is more your style, then expect to pay more. However, it will hardly break the bank costing around $4-$6. Local fruits and produce are under $1. This is also the same price for the local beer (San Miguel) and rum. On the popular island of Bohol, 3-star hotels start at $30/night.
