The Bahamas are an archipelago of 2,000 islands. The name is derived from Spanish, meaning “shallow water”, which is exactly what gives the area its captivating beauty. Water activities are big here; snorkeling, kitesurfing, and dolphin excursions are the norm. There’s also a casino inside the Atlantis Hotel on Paradise Island (a day trip away from Nassau). Nature treks and cave tours are popular, too. Bahamians love music. Junkanoo is the most common style, however Calypso, Soca, and Rake & Scrape are deeply ingrained in the island culture.
