9 Budget Vacations in Paradise

6) Guatemala

Guatemala is a fascinating mix of ancient colonial times and modern city. Sights and activities here are aplenty. World-famous Mayan Ruins like Tikal are a remarkably ancient and a humbling sight. The entrance fee is $20, but well-worth it. Visit Chichicastenango, the largest market in the country for budget souvenir shopping, beautiful handicrafts, and an overall awesome cultural experience. Antigua, declared a World Heritage site due to its colonial Spanish architecture, is a must-see Guatemalan city. Hike the Volcan De Pacaya, an active volcano just 30 minutes outside Antigua. Only $6 for park entrance. Walk to The Hill of the Cross in the north end of the city for a picture-perfect panoramic shot. Accommodations can be found for under $25. If you’re thrifty, meals can be found for around $7. Not as cheap as Mexico, but still cheaper than most places at home.
