7) Sanibel Island
One of the most pristine places in the whole state, it’s clear the locals take great pride in preserving their land. Sanibel Island, a barrier island on the Gulf of Mexico, is as natural as they come. You won’t find any tall buildings, fast food restaurants, or even a traffic light on this tranquil stretch of paradise. The feeling of having stepped into your own personal utopia is guaranteed. Explore fifteen miles of untouched beaches and plentiful flora and fauna. The beaches of Sanibel have won awards as the best for collecting seashells. Rent a moped and cruise to Gulfside City Park or Bowman’s Beach, the most remote beaches on the island. Go on dolphin sighting boat tours, sunset tours, or a fishing trip. Rent stand up paddle boards or jet skis. There are just as many ways to stay active as there are to relax.
