6) Richland
Richland is a small city that offers an excellent quality of life. The cost of living in Richland is seven percent lower than the national average. The per capita income here is 20 percent higher than the national average. The median household income is almost 50 percent higher than the rest of the country. In addition to a high income and low cost of living, Richland offers an education system better than most parts of the country. Ninety-six percent of the residents are high school graduates; half of adults hold a college degree. The average test scores are higher than the national average. All this affluence, affordability and quality education is complemented by a low crime rate, which makes Richland safer than 93 percent of all the cities in the US. Maybe it’s because the unemployment rate here is 72 percent lower than the national average, or because the poverty rate is 68 percent lower. Whatever the reason, Richland remains one of the most attractive places to live in Michigan.
