3) New York, NY
It’s not surprising that New York ranked towards the top of Travel + Leisure’s list. Big Apple residents have a reputation for being unhelpful. New Yorkers come off this way because they’re often too busy to stop and talk with visitors. Still, if you ask a New Yorker for directions, they’ll probably quickly point out the right way to go. Or, if you’re lost in the subway, they’ll let you know what train to take. Just don’t expect New Yorkers to stick around for a long conversation afterwards—chances are, they have somewhere they need to be. If you’re worried about getting lost in Manhattan, spend time studying a map before your trip. Midtown is a grid system, making it easy to navigate, but Downtown is a bit trickier. Studying a map of Manhattan before you leave will help you feel more confident during your trip.
