2) Ushuaia, Argentina
Located on Argentina’s Tierra del Fuego archipelago, Ushuaia is literally the ‘end of the world’. Ushuaia is the southernmost city in the world, the antithesis of Norilsk in Siberia which is the northernmost, and is perched precariously on a steep hill at the tip of the South American continent. Windswept and romantic, Ushuaia is surrounded by the Martial Mountains and the Beagle Channel making it the gateway to the Antarctic.
Walk to the southernmost point of the town and climb the Les Eclaireurs lighthouse for a spectacular view before taking a cruise to nearby Isla Yécapasela, known for its huge population of cute penguins.
