6) Buenos Aires, Argentina
The lively South American city is known for its inexhaustible nightlife and electric atmosphere. However, a recent decline in the economy has had a negative effect on the city. The economic instability has resulted in higher crime rates and neglect of the city’s infrastructures. While there are visible signs of problems, Buenos Aires is still a place that should be visited. In fact, there’s so much to do, it’ll be hard to pick a focus point. Start with the Fair of the Mataderos, a lively market with tango-tapping street dancers, craft venders, and Argentinian-style cowboys (guachos) casually roaming the streets by horseback. Puerto Madero is another spot that’s worth a wander; go for dinner and drinks and stay late for cocktails and dancing. For a bit of historic culture, head to Recoleta Cemetery, the final resting place of many important political and influential figures.
