8) Jasper National Park, Alberta
Jasper National Park is north of Banff and the place to see glaciers, waterfalls, the Canadian Rockies, and take a dip in the hot springs. The park system is celebrating its 150th birthday this year and park admission is free through 2017. The big money saver here is lodging in the summer months. There are a number of campsites ranging from basic to more sophisticated sites with bathrooms and showers. If camping isn’t your style or you are going in the winter, compare the costs of local hotels, hostels and bungalows. There are also private home rental options. The park has almost 13 miles of trails for hiking and biking, lakes for kayaking, skiing, and snowshoeing. Jasper is also full of wildlife, so keep an eye out for grizzly bears, bighorn sheep, cougars and beavers.
