The capital of Canada is smaller than both Toronto and Montreal, but it still offers plenty of culture and activity. The Rideau Canal is free to enjoy in the summer. Walk or bike
(with reasonably priced bike rentals available) the pathways along the water and watch the boats go by, In winter, when it ices over, it’s free to go ice skating (with skate rentals also available). Check the schedule of the local museums, including the Canadian War Museum and the Canadian Museum of Nature, as they have free admission on Thursday evenings. You can also save by booking a room away from the center of town. The biggest savings come in winter if you are prepared for the extreme cold, but you can save in spring and fall as well. Summer is the most popular and most expensive season.
