7) Fort Pierce
Coming a close third behind the cities of Pahokee and Immokalee is Fort Pierce. With a poverty rate of 30%, the city has all the vices associated with high poverty. There are no Asian or African American owned firms in the city, which tells a lot about the relative social status of these ethnicities but the number of woman owned firms, though, is higher than many other states. Still, just 13% of the residents aged 25 or older hold a bachelor’s degree. In regards to crime, Fort Pierce falls in the bottom 8% of all the cities in Florida in terms of safety. If you live in Fort Pierce, there is 1 in 17 chance that you will become a victim of crime, and that is just based on the number of reported crimes. Unfortunately, many crimes go unreported.
