6) Putnam County
Putnam County was recently declared by 24/7 Wall Street as the poorest county in Florida. More than a quarter of the city’s population lives below the poverty line. Only a tenth of its residents aged 25 or older hold a bachelor’s degree. The per capita income here is around $18,000. The county’s total population is just above 72,000 and despite being made up of a mainly white population, the city has had a checkered crime record, which also rebuts the commonly held belief that crime is a major problem in mainly black neighborhoods. Like Immokalee, there is not a single mentionable woman owned firm in the county and hispanics also do not own any mentionable firms in Putnam County. If you are beach lover, than Putnam County is definitely not for you as it is untouched by the Atlantic, and you would have to cross St. John’s County to enjoy a day on the beach.
