4) Pahokee
Pahokee is one of the poorest regions in Florida. Located on the southeastern part of the state, it has a population of about 6,500, making it one of the smallest cities in the state. But there is also another point of distinction when it comes to Florida and Pahokee. While the state keeps struggling to bring its poverty rate under 12%, Pahokee’s poverty rate is as high as 32%, i.e. a third of the city’s population lives below the national poverty line. If that’s not scary enough then you should note that 18% of Pahokee’s population lives on an income less than of half the national poverty line income. So if you are somebody who’s looking for a job or some upwards mobility, either financially or socially, Pahokee may not be the place for you.
