10) National Mall and Memorial Parks, Washington, D.C.
The National Mall and Memorial Parks are the sites of some of Washington D.C.’s most recognizable imagery. The Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial are a couple of the must-see spots for your tour. The National Mall typically refers to the area from the Lincoln Memorial to the Capitol with the reflecting pool and Washington Monument. The National Park Service operates that area in conjunction with the area across the Potomac around the Tidal Basin. It includes the Korean War Veterans, Vietnam Veterans and Jefferson Memorials. About 24 million people visit the parks each year. Their location in the nation’s capital, with other sites like Ford’s Theater and the Smithsonian, makes it a prime spot for a trip to our nation’s capital. The best part is that many of these amazing sites are free of charge to visit.
