Some of the reasons the French likely enjoy their longevity of 79.4 years for men and 85.4 for women include portion control, leisurely meals, walking and bike riding, all of which appear to counteract the rich pastries and wine. Despite an increasing number of bans on smoking, it remains a popular pastime, especially with teens. France still sees many of the same health issues as other Western countries.
