7) Yosemite National Park, California
Internationally famous for its giant ancient sequoia forests, breathtaking vistas and the steep picturesque slope of El Capitan–captured for all time in the stunning black and white photography of native son Ansel Adams–Yosemite is a destination spot that has left visitors in awe of its beauty for over a century. Located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, the Park features camping, hiking and rock-climbing (for those so inclined) and guided tours through valley trails and around stunning waterfalls, all in surroundings of spectacular, untouched natural beauty. Yosemite is open year-round, although portions of it close in the late autumn and winter. It reopens completely in the spring and summer. In Yosemite Village, visitors have ample access to lodging, a visit to the Yosemite Museum and the Ansel Adams Gallery, which showcases many of the black and white images captured by the famed photographer.
