10) Hollywood, California
The obvious stop for movie fans of all ages, not to be missed is a stroll down the world-famous Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard, with the “stars” of famous celebrities past and present laid into its legendary sidewalk. Continuing along, you pass two remarkable movie theaters from Hollywood’s Golden Age, Grauman’s Chinese Theater and the Pantages. Inside is a glimpse of a night at the movies long ago in large auditoriums with plush seats, elaborate carved and inlaid decorations on the walls and ceilings and huge viewing screens. Outside the Chinese Theater, the world-famous hand and footprints of movie idols past are pressed into the concrete entryway of the theatre. To complete the journey, a stop in for drinks or a meal at Musso and Frank’s Grill, a famed hangout for stars in the 40s and 50s and later. With a little imagination, you can almost feel the excitement of that bygone age.
