5) Joshua Tree National Park

Joshua Tree National Park is located in the southeastern part of the state and is larger than the state of Rhode Island. The ecosystems of two deserts, the Mojave and Colorado, come together with the Little San Bernardino Mountains to the southwest to create a rugged landscape of rock formations and Joshua trees. There are three visitor centers and 191 miles of hiking trails. The Cholla Cactus Garden, remains of the Keys family ranch, Hidden Valley, Skull Rock and Salton Sea are all sites not to miss. Visitor’s frequently encounter wildlife in Black Rock Canyon. It’s also a great place to stargaze, and in October the park hosts the Night Sky Festival.
