6) San Carlos
This city has one of the lowest crime rates in the United States, and with its equally low unemployment rate, it is easy to see why San Carlos ranks among the best places to live in California. Located on the San Francisco Peninsula, midway between San Francisco and San Jose, the city’s motto is “City of Good Living”, and that’s an accurate description of the lifestyle you’ll have. The total population is less than 30,000, so there’s a friendly atmosphere in the community. Its downtown area is mainly comprised of eating places and small privately owned businesses, and the pace of living is unhurried. San Carlos is also considered to be a relatively affluent place to live: the average household will have an income in excess of $150,000, which places it in the 94 percentile among other cities in California. It also has a good school system, an airport and two museums.
