6) Arlington Heights
Arlington Heightsâ motto is âthe city of good neighboursâ and if that doesnât make you want to move there I donât know what will. Arlington Heights is located just 25 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, the perfect location for a daily commute. Being an Arlington Heights homeowner is a very desirable position to be in as home values in the Heights are over 100 percent higher than elsewhere in Illinois. Unsurprisingly, the residents of Arlington Heights also enjoy an average annual income that is higher than much of the rest of Illinois. Arlington Heights is not just another standard suburb though, this village (that is big enough to be a small city) is home to the Arlington Heights Memorial Library which houses one of the largest collections in Illinois, a thriving downtown area with a buzzing food scene and Arlington Park Race Track. This race track hosts Breederâs Cup qualifying event the Arlington Million each year.
