5) Elmhurst
Elmhurst comes out top in our list of the best places to live in Illinois for culture. Both the Theatre Historical Society of America and the prestigious Elmhurst Art Museum are located in this relatively small town of just 45,000 people. Located in DuPage and Cook counties, just west of the city of Chicago, Elmhurst has an impressive average household income that is almost 50 percent higher than that of the rest of Illinois. The education in Elmhurst is A+ with a number of fine schools and a high graduation rate. The crime rate is low but unfortunately the same cannot be said of the cost of living which is high with house prices soaring in recent years. Scoring a ranking of 19 in AreaVibe’s liveability index, Elmhurst has weather that is so-so, no different from the rest of Illinois, but people still flock here to live thanks to the wonderful pedestrianized downtown area and first class cultural establishments.
