Canton, Georgia is another historic Cherokee County city that is located in the Atlanta metro area near the Blue Ridge Mountains. The history of Canton revolves around conflicts that surfaced with Native Americans around the time of the Georgia Gold Rush in 1829, eventually having a role in the “Trail of Tears.” Despite the city’s stake in American history, the community has grown and innovated to become a more modern yet low crime rate home to an expansive education system including approximately 35 schools of varying levels. Canton also houses the Cherokee County Airport near the downtown area, which contributes to the low unemployment rate of about 7.7 percent.
