Athens is home to the University of Georgia and has a bustling and hip downtown with an abundance of family and nightlife entertainment. It is considered to be the sixth largest city in the state of Georgia while having the smallest geographical area of 118.2 square miles. The city is divided into thirteen neighborhoods which contain exciting attractions such as the Georgia Museum of Art, the University of Georgia Campus Arboretum, the state Botanical Garden, the Georgia Theatre, and various American Civil War attractions and artifacts. The collegiate mindset of the city has piqu ed the interest of many visitors and prospective students due to its three higher education institutions including the University of Georgia, Athens Technical College, and Piedmont College.
