5. Surprise
Baseball lovers flock to Surprise, Arizona to witness Major League Baseball’s most prospective players during Spring Training. Located in Maricopa County, Surprise is another suburb within the Phoenix metro and has welcomed thousands of new retirees in the past decade. With a population of nearly 130,000 residents, Surprise is a rapidly expanding city with a comfortable small town mentality. Fans of the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers baseball teams often visit the city during training only to eventually move there in support of outdoor recreation and athletics. Surprise is a city that lives up to its name with its straightforward appearance and shockingly innovative community and economy. Transportation in and around the city is relatively mild with easy access via Loop 303 and the staple US Route 60 freeway.
