9 Mistakes to Avoid When Traveling Overseas

5) Following the Tourist Track

Follow the well beaten tourist track and you’ll never experience a country’s full potential. There are some sites that are obviously must-sees when you’re in certain countries. The Great Wall of China or the Eiffel Tower, for example, are always visited by the country’s tourists. While it’s a 100% guaranteed that these spots will be crowded, it’s normal to visit the highlights of a famous city. BUT don’t get too caught up in the ‘Top 10’ sights and restaurants. It may not always show you the most authentic side of your destination. Ask locals about their favorite spots in the city and follow their recommendations. The same can also be said when choosing a restaurant. Instead of settling for a restaurant on Tourist Avenue, wander a few blocks over and see what local joint you can find. We’re betting cheaper prices, better service, and tastier food.
