3) Don’t Neglect Your Pets

If you have pets don’t forget to make sure that they are taken care of while you are away from home. Especially if you have strictly outdoor pets like cats or rabbits. Neglecting your animals can be considered abuse, even if it was by mistake. Boarding is always an option, but it can cause depression and there is always the risk that your pet could pick up parasites, diseases or worse, be abused. Your best bet if you plan to be away for a while would be to have someone you trust to house, and pet sit for you. This way your pets are not left alone and to their own devices and your house is not sitting empty. You can also leave some things with your scent on them to reassure your pet.
