9) Ellis Island
If summer means that you have some extra free time and you want to learn a lot about the history of immigrants in America, visiting Ellis Island will be an enjoyable day for you, as it was one of the main places where immigrants entered the country in the 1800 and 1900s. You can view exhibits and even participate in genealogy workshops at the American Family Immigration History Center. If you want to learn a lot from someone who is familiar with the history, you can opt for a ranger-guided program. Additionally, if you make reservations ahead of time, you can go over to Liberty Island and climb up the Statue of Liberty in order to feel closer to any immigrant ancestors you may have had, as well as to the history of American overall.
