3) Orient
Yet another place to soak up the summer sun in New York is Orient, at the tip of the northern fork of Long Island. If you visit Orient Beach State Park, you can spend time on the beach, perhaps with a picnic, and also walk around the nature trails while you’re there. Additionally, if you have children, they can spend some time on the playgrounds at the park. If you want to have some time on the water, you can go kayaking in the area. Furthermore, the Cross Sound Ferry is an easy and relaxing way to venture over to Connecticut if you want to break up your time in Orient. For those who would rather stay close to the island, however, there are great opportunities for fishing on the many boats that leave from Orient. Additionally, people who want to learn a bit about local history in the midst of their visit can engage with culture and information at the Oysterponds Historical Society.
